It's Alive! Fixing my chromebook/chrultrabook
2 minutes read •
I've had 4.5 years w/ this laptop.. The first year and a half as a Chromebook and then the last three years as a chrultrabook. Mostly smooth sailing outside of occasional Linux hiccup. However, recently it started turning itself off after 15-30m of usage... Not a typical crash but a hard shutdown w/ the power indicator flashing, regardless of whether the device was plugged in.
Claude convinced me it was the battery. On the one hand, the battery health was a spry 72% and the battery isn't bloated, but after ~1,100 cycles, it does seem like the most plausible possibility, and it's the cheapest solution anyways.
My battery arrived today and the course I took @ YouTube University was going well until one of the screws holding the battery in place got stripped. I tried a rubber band and other stuff, and was thiiis close to just tearing the thing out before I remembered the downside of potentially breaking a lithium ion battery 😅.
I walked to the local hardware store and one of the employees grabbed a random tool and plucked it off. Easy peasy after that. Installed the battery and writing this blog post from the fixed device.
