Podcast Recommendations - Wit/Banter
2 minutes read •
I listen to podcasts. Often.
This post kicks off a mini-series breaking down my favorites/recommendations.
Here are the ones that are often entertaining, because the hosts are great listens regardless of the underlying topic:
- Ebro in the Morning - This is my favorite show and is a great amalgamation of my interests: black culture, progressivism, thought-provoking conversations hidden behind pop culture and just goofiness to avoid being too heavy-handed
- Hard Fork - As tech and culture become intertwined, this podcast breaks things down and will have you laughing along the way. Really insightful perspectives on AI, but balanced w/ fun segments
- The Rest is History - I’m not a history buff so I only jump in on episodes covering interesting topic. Insightful and helps me deal w/ the present/gives me hope about the future knowing how many “The world is going to shit” moments there have been in history
- Stuff You Should Know - I listen to about 70% of episodes. Great for piecing together everyday concepts that are easy to overlook. The hosts get along well and the tangents make the show even more enjoyable
- Juan Ep Is Life - Two former coworkers at Hot 97 radio station talk about (backpacker) hip hop and put on display their insecurities of being B-list celebrities. They often channel their inner Rodney Dangerfield about how their podcast, the first hip hop podcast doesn’t get no respect. I’m perhaps among the minority in that I could care less about the hip hop guests at this point and just prefer the one on one convo between friends.
- The Rest is Entertainment - Both hosts are educated and a part of the industry (best selling book author and esteemed culture journalist) and have the skillset to cover complex conversations and low brow convos alike.
